This sub-collection includes works by a group of five artists who collaborated in Broken Hill in the 1970s and 1980s, these being Jack Absalom, Eric Minchin, John Pickup, Hugh Schulz and Pro Hart. The collection contains 78 works by Pro Hart including, paintings, prints and sculpture.
Hart was dedicated to Broken Hill and spent his life painting subject matter that represented the harshness of its landscape and lived reality. He has become a famed and loved art figure, whose vibrant landscapes found humour in depictions of the outback, its events and personalities. The artist’s legacy lives on in the BHRAG’s acquisitive competition, The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, which showcases work in any media that reflects the spirit and diversity of the Australian outback.
