Born in Melbourne in 1960 and now living in Cessnock in the NSW Hunter valley. A professional artist for nearly 3 decades, self taught and a high school dropout, go figure. Predominantly a still life painter working in a realist style and influenced by the Spanish tradition.
My first real foray into painting was while backpacking through India at age 22 doing watercolours of local scenes. I have travelled extensively through the Australian outback over the years painting small plein air oil sketches of the landscape and also travel to Spain regularly.
I am a prolific painter and always have a few paintings on the go at any one time. I am represented by galleries in both NSW and WA.
Phil Drummond, The Birds 2020 | Oil on canvas, 76 x 62 cm
Finalist, 2020 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize
A celebration of the astonishing birdlife of the inland. Quintessentially Australian, bringing colour and character to the landscape. I have used blue and white ceramics to enhance their decorative qualities and also as a reference to how they have been collected throughout the world.
