Imaging the topography, enmeshed in the environmental conditions of heat and cold, exposure to wind and intense sunlight, dust and dryness, jagged rocky surfaces and changing light, viewers are challenged to place themselves within the isolation and take time out of their busy existences to value this non-urban unique place.
Susan Severino uses her art practice as a highly personal and passionate exploration of the physical and sensory phenomena that is experienced within the rocky desert of Fowlers Gap in far Western NSW. It is a land of subtle but powerful beauty whose inherent value is only revealed when time is taken to carefully observe and spend time within it. Documenting with painting and drawing, Susan reveals her own understanding of the natural world within this arid region, with its harsh climatic vulnerability, full of hidden complexities.
'I believe, as Albert Einstein, that
“Behind the secrets of nature remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable” Albert Einstein.
I am Arid Drawn.'
