Flowing Lifelines - Dias Prabu
Next date: Sunday, 14 August 2022 | 04:00 AM
to Sunday, 25 September 2022 | 04:00 PM
Dias Prabu’s new exhibition of contemporary batik tulis animates the history of trade and cultural exchange between the Makassan fishers from Sulawesi, Indonesia and the Yolnju of north-eastern Arnhem Land, beginning in the 18th century. This legacy of contact is a starting point for the artist’s exploration of cultural exchange in a globalised world and his own relationship to Broken Hill as an Indonesian artist. Through contemporary techniques and processes, Prabu enlivens the tradition of batik to present 21 kaleidoscopic panels that tell stories of enduring friendship and embrace the colliding perspectives of past and future worlds.
The exhibition is accompanied by curator and writer Bianca Winataputri’s text in both English and Bahasa Indonesian.
