Gritta Walker | The Shape of Things

Saturday, 25 May 2019 | 09:00 AM to Sunday, 14 July 2019 | 04:00 PM

Image of Gritta Walkers work : Process photo, 2019, found & rusted objects.

Discarded objects, during their natural process of decomposition, retain a vestige of their former being.

When those objects are bent, half-buried and broken; when they rust, erode and fall apart, their gradual change renders them less resilient and less recognisable. On this path of transformation, clues remain as indicators of change, to journey back along the thread of time.

In the natural world - the land, atmosphere, seas and waters - careful observation is required to perceive constant changes to the ecology, changes which are indelibly marked on human habitats and cultural heritage.

When sight of a particular place in the environment gradually fades and the place has been so altered as to be almost unrecognisable, memory and stories remain as links between its past and present shape.
