As we have slowed our movement and distanced our bodies from others, this exhibition reflects on this time of isolation and contemplates the importance of forced self-reflection.
Confined to our homes, the places we curate so carefully, are presented here as sites of investigation. Still life works made indoors are a common source of inspiration for many artists, asking us to think about how and why we inhabit the spaces that we do.
What happens when this is forced?
Local artists have responded to the works in poetic, confronting and reflective ways as we understand the impact of a global pandemic on local artist practice. Homes confine us. Geography isolates us. But for millennia our actions in these spaces have battled our remoteness.
The conflict between connectedness and isolation is presented in this exhibition through the architecture and structures of our home, domestic scenes, activities and indoor still lives, depictions of the human body and its movement indoors and the uncomfortable and confronting imaginings of the dangers of being behind closed doors.
