Over the last six months, a group of young people have been developing their practices in the Gallery’s after school program, artsCOOL. In Practicing Diversity, these students present a collective body of work after a term of experimenting with materials and investigating the very concept of diversity. The works have been developed in response to this concept and students’ lived experiences to speak to issues around gender, cultural, and disability diversity. In these explorations, students have developed work across a range of media: ceramics, found objects, acrylic, pencil, digital prints, chalk pastel, and watercolour. The result is an exhibition of unique perspectives from young people in the Broken Hill community who have come together through shared curiosity and a desire to celebrate individuality.
