Broken Hill has long been home to many artists who, working collectively and independently, embody the thriving arts and cultural scene in the region. Broken Hill City Art Gallery has and continues to champion the work of local artists and groups. Throughout 2024, the former Library Gallery will host our new Shared Space program, dedicated to presenting the work of local artists, groups, curators and collectives.
BHCAG is now inviting applications for the 2024 Shared Space program.
Successful projects will receive curatorial assistance to develop and refine an exhibition that is innovative and responds to the modest gallery space. Awarded exhibitions will receive professional installation services and accompanying exhibition marketing. Located in the old residence of the Sully’s building, the domestic scale exhibition space measures 2 x 4 x 4 x 3 metres (approx. 12 sqm). Running wall space is limited to 10 metres (to allow space for text and exhibition titles).
We encourage applications that:
Are experimental and demonstrate professional development opportunities for artists or collectives
Are multi-modal and employ work in diverse media
Demonstrate socially engaged practice and/or respond to the heritage and culture of this region
Demonstrate a considered and clear idea
Consider space limitations
BHCAG also encourages exhibitions that include, respond to or reference works in the Collection. While encouraged, this is not a criteria for submission. The collection can be viewed online here: BHCAG Collection Search
Applications for the Shared Space program opening soon. Exhibitors will be announced early 2024.
