Portraiture, Place and Truth – What Makes a Photograph Last
Full-Day Workshop
How do some images endure while others fade?
Broken Hill City Art Gallery is pleased to present a full-day workshop with acclaimed Australian photographic portrait artist Robin Sellick, whose work explores identity, place and the quiet authority of portraiture.
Drawing on portraits made in Broken Hill and beyond, including works held in major national collections, Sellick will guide participants through a day of reflection, observation and practical exploration. The workshop examines how creative work is shaped by environment, perception and the decisions artists make over time.

The program includes:
• An opening artist talk
• Guided observation exercises (seeing before shooting)
• Case study analysis of selected portraits
• A practical portrait session using minimal gear
• Group reflection and discussion
This is not a technical camera workshop. Instead, it focuses on visual literacy, authorial voice and sustainable creative practice. Participants will be encouraged to reconsider how they see before they create.
Suitable for artists, photographers and creative practitioners working across disciplines and at all levels.
Places are limited to maintain an intimate and focused working environment. Lunch is included.
