Open Cut Commission
The Open Cut Commission invites artists to present an artistic proposal for the research and development of new work for exhibition at the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. It awards $10,000 to two artists or collectives to undertake field work in the Far West of NSW to develop a creative, responsive project.

About the Commission
In 2022, the Open Cut Commission will award two (2) artists or collectives $10,000 to undertake field work in the Far West of NSW and develop a responsive project.
The outcomes of the project will be included in the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery's 2023 artistic program. Open Cut builds on the long history of residencies and field work undertaken in the region and continues to support creative practice in regional Australia.
Who can apply
The Open Cut Commission is open to all arts professionals working in all disciplines. This includes, but is not limited to, artists, writers, performers, directors, musicians, historians, curators and educators. The commission is to support the research and development of new work.
Your proposal should reference why this commission is relevant to your current practice at this stage of your career.
How to apply
Applicants need to apply online during the application period at www.bhartgallery.com.au.
Applicants should create a proposal in .pdf format that includes:
- An outline of your artistic or research project – this could span visual art, text, performance or sonic outcomes (max 300 words).
- A statement describing the indicative exhibition outcome – this is not limited to a realised body of work and could include documention of field work and ephemera (200 words).
- Other support material – this may include a mixture of up to 10 labeled images, and up to one video/multimedia work (ensure this is uploaded to an accesible third-party website such as YouTube, Vimeo or Soundcloud, with links provided at the end of your proposal document).
Applicants are required to upload their CV and a current Artist Bio.
