The latest body of work by Krystle Evans presents a collection of tapestries and sculptural forms depicting feminine un-becoming. Climacteric women are transformed into divine beings through a process of shedding, mending and adornment.
Stitched portraits and bodily vessels depict creatures that unveil the unravelling of women and time. Subverting fashion, textiles and beauty, these otherworldly beings are brought into being through a reclamation of feminine power during the climacteric transition.
Through her practice, Krystle uses subversive stitch, transforming homely textiles into statement pieces that reject the notion of needlework as servile. Reclaiming women's work through craftivism, Krystle exposes a miscellanea that speaks to what it is to be a woman of a certain age. Climacteric rejects the notion of feminine cultivation and the taming of women, extolling feminine rage and enduring defiance.
