2026 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize Exhibition

Selected from more than 300 entries submitted by artists from across the country, this year's exhibition showcases the work of 50 outstanding finalists working across a diverse range of mediums, styles and perspectives. Together, the exhibition reflects the richness, resilience and ever-evolving story of the Australian landscape, its people and its spirit.

Established in honour of one of Australia's most celebrated artists, Pro Hart, the prize continues his legacy of encouraging creativity, originality and a deep connection to the outback. The 2026 Acquisitive Award-winning work, Ignifolia by Lucas Guilbert, now joins the Broken Hill City Art Gallery Collection, continuing to build an important record of contemporary Australian art for future generations.

The exhibition also features this year's Second Prize-winning work by Maurizio Paul Hirmer and all 50 finalist artworks, offering visitors the opportunity to experience some of the finest contemporary artistic responses to the Australian outback from across the nation.
