The Broken Hill City Art Gallery is proud to present the 2026 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, one of Australia's leading national acquisitive art prizes celebrating contemporary interpretations of the Australian outback.
Selected from hundreds of entries submitted by artists from across the country, this year's exhibition features the work of 50 outstanding finalists working across a wide range of mediums, styles and perspectives. Together, the exhibition reflects the richness, diversity and ever-evolving story of the Australian landscape, its people and its spirit.
Established in honour of one of Australia's most celebrated artists, Pro Hart, the prize continues his legacy of encouraging creativity, originality and a deep connection to the outback. The winning artwork will join the Broken Hill City Art Gallery Collection through the $20,000 Acquisitive Award, ensuring an important contemporary record of Australian art for future generations.

Join us for the opening of the 2026 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, celebrating the work of this year's 50 national finalists.
The evening will feature the announcement of the $20,000 Acquisitive Award, $2,000 Second Prize, and the launch of voting for the $1,000 People's Choice Award.
We are delighted to welcome this year's guest judges, Peter Sharp, artist and Senior Lecturer at UNSW School of Art & Design, and Megan Monte, Director of Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
