Pro Hart Outback Art Prize 2026 

By submitting an entry to the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize 2026, the artist agrees to the following terms and conditions.

Eligibility

  • Artists must be currently residing in Australia or be an Australian citizen.

  • Entries must address the theme ‘Australian Outback’.

  • Entries must be original works completed within the last 12 months (2025–2026).

  • Each artist may submit a maximum of two artworks.

  • A non-refundable entry fee of $45 (including GST) per artwork applies.

  • Works wholly or partially generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not be accepted.

Artwork Requirements

  • All measurements listed on the entry form must be provided in millimetres (mm).

  • Artworks must not exceed 1500 mm x 1500 mm (unframed).

  • All artworks must be for sale.

  • A 33% commission (including GST) applies to all sales and must be included in the listed sale price.

Finalist Exhibition

The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize exhibition will constitute a shortlist of works selected from all entries.

Selected finalists will be notified by email and must ensure artworks arrive at:

Key Dates – 2026

Call for Entries — Monday 16 March 2026
Entries Close — Monday 8 June 2026
Finalists Notified — Friday 26 June 2026
Artworks Due — Friday 24 July 2026
Opening Night — Friday 31 July 2026
Exhibition Dates — 31 July – 25 October 2026

All selected artworks must remain available for display for the full duration of the exhibition.

Presentation and Delivery

Finalists must ensure artworks arrive ready for display:

  • D-rings attached to the back of artworks (10 cm from the top for larger works and 5 cm from the top for smaller works).

  • Works on paper must be professionally framed and ready to hang.

  • 3-dimensional works must include display instructions where required.

  • Where appropriate, artworks should be clearly labelled on the back with the artist’s name, title, and sale price.

  • The Gallery reserves the right not to display works that do not meet presentation requirements.

Transportation to and from the Gallery is the sole responsibility of the artist. Artists must ensure works are adequately packaged and insured for transit and exhibition.

Copyright and Reproduction

By entering the prize, the artist grants Broken Hill City Art Gallery a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, publish, and communicate the artwork, artist name, artwork title, artist statement, biography, and images of the work for the following purposes:

  • Administration of the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize

  • Promotion of the prize, exhibition, and the Gallery

  • Catalogues, publications, and promotional material

  • Archival, reporting, educational, and research purposes

Artists retain full copyright and ownership of their work unless it becomes the acquisitive prize winner.

Artists will be credited wherever reasonably possible when their work is reproduced.

Moral Rights

Broken Hill City Art Gallery will ensure appropriate attribution to the artist when exhibiting or reproducing the work. The Gallery may reproduce details of artworks for promotional purposes but will not significantly alter works without the artist’s consent.

Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP)

If an artwork incorporates Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP), the artist must ensure that appropriate permissions and cultural protocols have been followed and must provide evidence of informed consent from relevant community custodians if requested.

Insurance and Liability

Broken Hill City Art Gallery will exercise all due care in handling artworks but accepts no liability for loss or damage to artworks while in transit to or from the Gallery.

Artists are responsible for arranging insurance for transit and exhibition if required.

Prize Information

The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize includes:

First Prize — $20,000 acquisitive
Second Prize — $2,000 non-acquisitive
People’s Choice Award — $1,000

The winning acquisitive artwork becomes the property of Broken Hill City Art Gallery and will be added to the Gallery’s permanent collection.

By submitting an entry, the artist warrants that the artwork is their original work and that they hold full ownership and rights to sell the work.

General

Exhibition of works is at the discretion of Broken Hill City Art Gallery, taking into consideration the judge’s selection and curatorial requirements.

Entry fees are strictly non-refundable.
