Front Window Exhibition Opportunity - Broken Hill City Art Gallery

Broken Hill City Art Gallery invites artists to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the opportunity to exhibit work in the Gallery’s highly visible front window display space in 2026/2027.

This initiative provides a platform for artists to showcase their practice to a broad public audience, activating the street frontage and contributing to the cultural life of Broken Hill.

 

Opportunity

Selected artists will be offered a temporary exhibition in the Gallery’s front window. This space is visible to pedestrians and visitors outside of Gallery opening hours, offering strong public exposure.

We welcome proposals from artists working across a range of media, including (but not limited to) painting, drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture, and small-scale installation.

 

Who Can Apply
  • Emerging and established artists
  • Artists based in Broken Hill and surrounding communities
  • Individual artists or small collaborative groups

 

Submission Requirements

Please include the following in your EOI:

  • Artist Name
  • Contact Details (email and phone number)
  • Type of Work / Medium (e.g. painting, photography, ceramics, etc.)
  • Short Artist Bio (100–150 words)
  • Brief Description of Proposed Work or Concept (optional but encouraged)
  • 2–3 Images of Artwork
    • JPEG format preferred
    • Include title, medium, dimensions, and year for each work
  • Preferred exhibition timing (please select minimum 2 preferred periods)
    • June/July/August 2026
    • Sept/October/November 2026
    • December/January/February 2026/2027
    • March/April/May 2027
    • June/July/August 2027
    • Sept/October/November 2027

 

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be assessed based on:

  • Artistic quality and originality
  • Suitability for display in a front window environment
  • Visual impact and engagement with a public audience
  • Feasibility within the space

 

Conditions of Exhibition
  • The Gallery will install the exhibition in consultation with the artist.
  • Final curatorial decisions, including layout and presentation, rest with the Gallery.
  • The Gallery reserves the right to exclude or adjust works due to:
    • Space limitations
    • Installation or safety requirements
    • Content deemed unsuitable for a public-facing environment
  • Artists must ensure works are ready for display and meet any agreed specifications.

 

Additional Information
  • Exhibition duration and scheduling will be determined by the Gallery.
  • Due to the nature of the space, works should be robust and suitable for prolonged display in natural light conditions.
  • Artists will be notified of the outcome following the assessment process.
