Broken Hill City Art Gallery welcomed over 250 guests for the opening of the 2025 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, featuring 50 finalist works from across Australia, including locals David Doyle, Kelly Leonard and Krystle Evans.

Supported by the Hart family, this prestigious $20,000 acquisitive award celebrates contemporary art that captures the spirit, beauty and complexity of the outback. Open to artists nationwide, PHOAP continues the Gallery’s tradition of collecting works that reflect the art of our time.

Second Prize – Chris Byrnes
Awarded for The distance between the layers 1, an experimental photographic work exploring distance, presence and place.

Highly Commended – Hans Romeyn
Recognised for 40k’s out, a vivid acrylic capturing the heat, shimmer and silence of the desert landscape.
