A personal journey through song
Murra presents a collection of songs written in Barkandji language by Malyangapa Baaka Wiimpatja artist Leroy Johnson, the 2025 Open Cut Commission winner.
These songs are personal expressions of the places that have left an impression on Leroy and represent his travels through the far west to places along the songlines or Murras that have been travelled by his ancestors for thousands of years. The songs are visually presented in collaboration with Natasha Johnson (art) and Aimee Volkofsky (video).
The Open Cut Commission supported artists to create new work inspired by the Far West of NSW through $10,000 commissions funded by Create NSW.
